Competition in Programming, Technology and Robotics

Registration for the competition is now open.

Science-Smart School of Sofia will host a Competition in Programming, Technology and Robotics for the first time, encouraging young innovators to create their own software and technological projects.

The competition is open to students from 5th to 9th grade from any Bulgarian school. It aims to stimulate logical thinking, creativity and practical technological skills, while encouraging students to apply their knowledge in informatics and technology to real-world projects by working individually or in teams.

The competition will take place on May 17, 2026 at SMART Science High School (Sofia Tech Park: 111, "Tsarigradsko Shose" Blvd.).

Competition Categories: arrow

Participants may submit projects in one of the following categories:

1. Educational Application

A software or web application designed to support learning in subjects such as mathematics, science, languages or other school disciplines.

2. Computer Game

Development of an original computer game with its own mechanics, storyline and interactive gameplay.

3. Algorithmic Project

A program that solves mathematical or practical problems using algorithms. Example topics include: data processing, mathematical calculations, number or text analysis, algorithmic problem solving.

4. Social or Practical Application

Software designed to solve a real-life problem, such as: task management tools, learning organization systems, applications related to health, sports, ecology or renewable energy, everyday digital solutions.

5. Hardware Project with Arduino

Development of a hardware project using Arduino and electronic components. Example ideas include: smart plant watering system, weather station, alarm system, automatic lighting, robot or automated device, smart home solutions, simulation of real-life processes.

6. Web Application or Website

Development of an interactive website or web-based application with useful functionality.

Completed projects must be submitted by May 10, 2026, to the email address projects@izzi.academy.

In order to enroll in the competition, complete the following steps before May 9, 2026:

  • Fill in the Registration form below;
  • Send the signed Declaration to e-mail: info@izzi.academy;
  • Please, cover the registration fee. Bank details are provided in the Registration form;

Registration Fee: 26 EURO /per participant

Competition Organisation: arrow

The competition is organised by Science-Smart School of Sofia.

Rules and procedures:
1. Participation can be individual or in a team of up to 3 students.
2. Each project must be an independent development of the participants.
3. The project must include:

  • a working program / device
  • the source code of the project
  • a short description of the idea and functionality
  • instructions for starting or using

4. Arduino projects must include a description of the components used and a wiring diagram.
5. Projects are submitted in electronic format, and in the case of hardware projects, a demonstration is also presented.
6. Participants present their project through a short presentation (5–10 minutes).

Participants can use one or more of the following programming languages ​​and technologies: C, C++, Java, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Arduino (C/C++ based environment).

The official language to be used at the competition will be Bulgarian.

The results will be published on the tournament’s official website. Contestations are not accepted.

The jury will evaluate the projects according to the following criteria:

  • Idea and originality – 20%
  • Functionality and completeness of the project – 25%
  • Algorithmic solution / technical implementation – 20%
  • Quality and structure of the code – 15%
  • User interface and ease of use – 10%
  • Presentation and demonstration of the project – 10%

The best projects in each category will receive:

  • diplomas and certificates
  • material awards
  • special awards from Izzi Science
