Cambridge International

World-class curriculum with a rigorous approach to guided inquiry based learning of science

Cambridge Assessment International Education is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19-year-olds. Over 10 000 schools in more than 160 countries belong to the Cambridge community.

Izzi Science for Kids Private Primary School is accredited by Cambridge Assessment International Education to offer its students comprehensive education complying with the British and Bulgarian standards. The variety of day-to-day school activities enable our students to gain a wealth of in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of the world around them, encourage their creativity, and foster their intellectual development and critical thinking skills.

Our school curriculum combines the compulsory subjects for pre-school, primary and lower secondary school education, as established by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, and the following Cambridge Primary (for students aged 5 to 11) and Cambridge Lower Secondary (for students aged 11-13) qualifications:

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Science
(from Preschool to Grade 7)

Science classes are held on a daily basis and are designed to build an understanding of the surrounding world, the nature and the laws of the Universe. The students develop and consolidate their knowledge through clearly presented theoretical information complemented by images, diagrams and mind maps and further reinforced through a number of hands-on experiments and projects. In Science classes, children improve their critical thinking skills and learn to apply the scientific approach to problem solving in our excellently equipped science laboratories that meet the Cambridge International quality and safety standards.

The curriculum for Grades 1-7 is broadened to include a Social Studies Module. Bulgarian and World Geography classes and History classes are taught in both Bulgarian and English languages. They take the students to faraway places and various historical periods, stimulate their curiosity and desire to travel and experience new cultures.

The study of Bulgarian culture, history and development is equally covered in class.

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Mathematics
(from Preschool to Grade 7)

Mathematical knowledge is introduced through various examples, followed by terminology and formal definitions. Problems relate to real-life situations; they are practical and aim at creating an understanding of numbers and functions. Children are encouraged to visualise the problems and to find logical connections. A great number of math problems in each topic-based unit require children to solve them in their heads – a skill, which is gradually developed over time.

Learners develop an overall understanding of the subject, focusing on principles, patterns, systems, functions, and relationships.

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary English
(from Preschool to Grade 7)

Learners develop their knowledge as well as reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, with early reading skills being based on the phonics approach whereas vocabulary is built and expanded through a wealth of interactive and print resources, including printed and electronic books, thus boosting learners’ confidence to use language in a variety of contexts. Students are exposed to a stimulating environment as early as preschool, and this enables them to communicate in English, develop their listening, reading and comprehension skills and build the basics of their writing skills. Throughout the years, learners familiarise themselves with texts that vary in style and context and participate in a number of creative writing challenges. An in-depth knowledge of both English and Bulgarian grammar rules is intended to improve learners’ understanding of grammar, vocabulary and style in both languages.

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Global Perspectives
(from Preschool to Grade 7)

In these classes, students discuss important and age-sensitive topics, with their teacher acting as a moderator and mentor.

Learners are engaged in projects that cover a broad array of global issues and topics. They discuss a variety of real-life situations, do research, gather information, check facts, and state arguments to support their viewpoints. Students learn how to participate in discussions in a confident and respectful manner.

Learners will be involved in diverse projects, and the key objective will be to strengthen the links between English, mathematics, science and social studies as well as to develop a broad general knowledge of the world intended to prepare them for the challenges at the next stages of education.

Learning materials

Izzi Science for Kids works with Collins – one of the publishers of endorsed resources for Cambridge International that support Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary English, Mathematics and Science frameworks. In addition, Collins provides syllabus for each subject and each stage, qualification opportunities for teachers, core and additional teaching resources for Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Lower Secondary programmes.

Teachers'approach

Our teaching approach is heuristic (question-based classroom) and the children’s beaming smiles are a clear indication that a lesson has been interesting and the students are well-prepared, confident and ready to apply the new knowledge in the projects and experiments planned in the unit.

Our school facilities

Classrooms, laboratories, art and music studios and sport and dance halls - comply with the Cambridge International standards for interactive and effective learning in a safe and stimulating environment.

Assessment

The curriculum at Izzi Science for Kids is designed so that learners can gain the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully take the assessment tests at the end of each stage of education. Students’ performance is monitored through regular in-class assessment, Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Progression Tests and end-of-stage standardised tests: Cambridge Primary Checkpoint (at the end of Grade 4) and Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint (at the end of Grade 7). After taking the standardised tests, each learner receives a Statement of Achievement from Cambridge International.

The Statement of Achievement is equivalent to the Bulgarian end-of-year certificate, covers all subjects and meets the requirements of numerous educational systems, including the UK educational system.

The assessment process enables appropriate planning, with the ultimate goal being to show high academic achievements through encouraging diligent work, continuous efforts, independent learning and self-discipline among students.
